This Privacy Policy explains how TextMeThe.News (“we,” “us”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use our SMS news service (the “Service”) or visit textmethe.news.

We collect your mobile number and basic message activity so we can text you the news. Giving us a number is optional: our alerts feed can be read without providing any personal information at all. We do not sell your phone number, and we do not share it with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes. Text STOP at any time to opt out.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

• Your mobile phone number, when you text our keyword or otherwise sign up.
• The content of messages you send us: keywords, preferences, topic choices, and any replies or feedback.

Information collected automatically

• Message metadata from our messaging provider: message timestamps, delivery status, opt-in and opt-out events, and your carrier.
• Basic website data: pages viewed, referring page, approximate region, browser and device type. Our site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes request logs to deliver and secure the site.

We do not collect your name, email address, precise location, contacts, or payment information for the free Service, and we do not read anything on your device.

2. How we use information

• To send you the news messages you signed up for.
• To honor your preferences, opt-outs, and HELP requests, and to respond to your support messages.
• To operate, secure, debug, and improve the Service, for example by measuring delivery rates or diagnosing failures.
• To comply with law, enforce our Terms, and prevent fraud, abuse, and spam.

We do not use your phone number to send you third-party advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles about you.

3. How we share information

We never sell your personal information, and we never share your mobile number, message content, or opt-in data with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes.

We share information only in these limited cases:

• Service providers who help us run the Service and process data only on our instructions. These are principally our messaging provider (such as Twilio), which transmits messages on our behalf, and our hosting and infrastructure providers (such as Cloudflare).
• Wireless carriers, to the extent needed to deliver a message to your handset.
• Legal requirements: when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, subpoena, or court order, or is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users, the public, or us.
• Business transfer: if the Service is acquired or merged, information may transfer to the successor, which will remain bound by this Policy or give you notice and a chance to opt out.

4. Your choices

• Stop messages. Reply STOP to any message. You will get one confirmation, and then we stop.
• Get help. Reply HELP to any message.
• Access or delete your data. Ask through our contact form and we will confirm what we hold about your number, correct it, or delete it.

5. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, to opt out of its sale or sharing (we do neither), and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. California residents have these rights under the CCPA/CPRA and Colorado residents under the Colorado Privacy Act; residents of other U.S. states with privacy laws, and of the EEA/UK, have comparable rights. To exercise any of them, contact us using the details in section 10. We will verify your request by confirming control of the mobile number involved, and will not charge you for a reasonable request.

6. Data retention

We keep your mobile number and subscription record for as long as you are subscribed. If you opt out, we retain a minimal record of your number and opt-out. This is required so that we can honor your opt-out and avoid texting you again. We keep message logs for a limited operational period and then delete or aggregate them. We may retain information longer where required by law.

7. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit and restricted access to subscriber data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and SMS itself is not an encrypted or private channel, so please do not send us sensitive personal information by text.

8. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has subscribed, contact us and we will delete the number.

9. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above will change, and we will post the revised Policy on this page. If changes are material, we will give notice by text or on the website before they take effect.
